I am an atheist, and when I hear the word religion, i think of a group of people saying they know what happens when you die. And since I don't know what happens when you die, I do not belong to a religion. (by the way, nobody knows what happens when you die, atheists are just the only ones who admit that.)

despite its rational properties and practicality, 'i wont beleive in god' seems not to be distributed worldwide, or in other words, not everone knows that there is no god. it is obvious to me. i can answer any question you may have if you are a thiest.
the idea that a jewish 'god-man' with the ability to be a god and then nick off to earth to preach CRAP about "beleive in me even this whole story is a load of rubbish" who is his own father, who can talk to 'himself' through a burning bush that doesnt burn out is ludricrous. to me obvcourse.
unfortunately, thiest dont see the sense. aparantely, we were just there.
science explains what religeon cant, plus its more practical and world, if you look around at the creatures are all practical and adapted to thier surroundings. god is unpractical and thierfore doesnot exist, feel free to ask me and religeous questions.
I CAN PROVE THAT GOD DOESNT EXIST.

LOL! There is a Christian knee-jerk reaction proclaiming other belief (lack of belief?) system a religion. While fallacious it does raise a couple of questions in my mind.

Is there a positive belief system inheirant in atheism? (I don't think that is necessarily the case but many athiests seem to hold to a belief in material positivism or some other form of rationalism. Others refer to "common sense" which is much less coherent but could be counted as a belief system.)

What does constitute a religion? An organized belief system with it's own heirarchy, doctrines, etc. is obviously a religion. (I am aware of no parallels to this in atheism.) Of course there are a number of religions that don't fall into this either. An elaborate belief system with associated behavioral/ethical norms could count. That's especially true if it has a devotional aspect, though there are recognized religions that are not devotional in nature.

I guess I'd agree that atheism is not a de facto religion, but I think that the demarcation between religious faith and the belief systems of (at least some) atheists is a little murky.

Haha!

That's a great one.

No way is atheism a religion, in my view. Religion requires a positive belief of some kind, as well as a supernatural element of some sort.

Presuming the non-existence of God because there is no evidence for God isn't a positive statement of belief. Certainly, there is no supernatural element to atheistic thought. Indeed, I'm an atheist and I don't believe "the supernatural" exists, or even is coherent.

By the way, welcome back Cassandra!
