Is the Equinox here yet??
Well, like I posted in the comments of the original post on this subject, the editor of the Dispatch called me this past Friday (13th) to verify my letter. Hopefully we’ll see it in the paper this week!
Still pretty busy, but I think that I have finally gotten my groove back. For some reason, I’ve been pretty down lately, but I think that I’m finally snapping back to it. I’m pretty done with Winter and we are so ready for Spring. I can not wait to get out into my yard and garden.
I’ve been looking into joining the local Humanist group. It has been recommended to me by quite a few people now. I missed their “open to the public” meeting a few days ago, so I’ll have to wait until the next one. I figure it would make sense to attend a meeting before paying the dues. But it really looks like a great group.
I haven’t spent much time studying… I need to “schedule” myself some study time. I think that I will do that tonight. After the boys are in bed (7:30ish) I will grab a Guinness, sit down and work on the rest of Article I, Section 8, Section 9 and Section 10. That will finish up Article I so that I can move on to Article II.
So, my goal for tonight is to finish up Article I. Maybe I’ll get started early. We’ll see how the kids are this afternoon.
My plans for 2006
I never really got to make any “New Year” posts since I was out of town. So I thought I’d share my “resolution” with you all.
My goal for this year is education.
Like I said 2 posts ago, I’m reading, and understanding the U.S. Constitution. It’s not an easy task for me. I sit with a copy of the constitution, a copy of the amendments, a notebook, a pen, and a dictionary. I also have to run some things by my husband to make sure that I’m understanding it correctly.
I have other things on my list of things to educate myself on, but I’m starting small. It’s not easy to do any of this with the kids around, so I mainly only work on this at night. It’ll take a while, but that’s ok. I have plenty of time.
Anyway, I have to go. I have a beer to finish, a little to read, and Lost to watch.
Letter to the Editor of The Dispatch
To the Editor:
I am disappointed in the Ohio State Board of Education and their decision to keep Critical Analysis of Evolution (or the promotion of Intelligent Design) in our science classrooms. How can we expect our 10th grade students (on average, 14 years old) to make a separation between Critical Analysis of Evolution and Intelligent Design, and between Intelligent Design and Creationism? How can students be expected to critically analyze the Theory of Evolution without God being discussed?
Bringing ID into our science classrooms puts teachers on that slippery slope of God being brought into the classroom, it increases the likely hood of the division of students, classrooms, high schools… Where will it end? The bottom line is that Intelligent Design is not science. ID involves a “maker.” Science is about nature, not the supernatural.
As a mother, I worry about our children and the quality of education here in Ohio. Time in science class is best spent on ACADEMICS, not mythology. The money that will be spent in court as a result of this decision would be better spent on keeping schools in Columbus open.

I have a feeling they’re going to toss this letter right out, but hey, I tried (and not all that hard, I might add). I’m sure that someone will write something similar that will be published for sure.
Where the hell have I been?
Wow… I’ve really neglected this blog!!
Well, on Dec. 23rd, I drove myself and the kids out to Northern Virginia and stayed until Dec. 30th. Then I drove to Northern New Jersey for New Year’s Eve. My husband flew out to NY and met me that night.
Our 4th anniversary was on December 31st, and we got to spend the entire evening alone. The boys stayed with my grandmother and my mother. It was so excellent.
Got back to Ohio on Jan 2nd, and have been busy trying to get back into the swing of life. My house is just a disaster, and I can’t seem to catch up. But I’m getting there, slowly…
I’ve been busy with the boys - Jesse’s school and therapies and Jeremy’s new tantrum phase.
I’ve also decided to start studying. No, no school, but studying on my own. Starting with the United States Constitution. So I’ve really been working on that. Yeah, I know that most people learn that kind of stuff in school, but I was too busy doing other things when I was in school. So I have to do it again. Damn it.
I’ll be back to blogging regularly again soon. I just need to find a way to fit it back in to my day.
Oh, and for the bad news - “The board, by a vote of 9-8, refused to reconsider Ohio’s high-school biology standards…”. Since this *will* go to court, let’s hope that we get a Judge like Judge Jones in PA.
